Finally I found my first job in muich, it pays good(as fas as i think), 10 euro/hour, but the company is too far, almost 30 km from where I live.

The first spring festival i did not stay with my family, and even not in China. Last year of this time i was busy eating various delicious foods and collecting money, but now... Anyway, cheers and wish everyone a good new year!

Visiting Bergbau Mesuem in Clausthal-Zellerfeld

Clausthal-Zellerfeld was famous for its Mining industry a few hundred years ago, which is now completely closed. During that time Clausthal was a new industrial center, but not in IT, however in mining. And that is why they built a college here, a place where the train do not even reach. But the people here today did not forget their history, they built a meseum, in which the models of the mining facility and some mine samples are exhibited. The real location of these facilities are just behind this museum.

This is actually a amazing mechanism, which can transport the miners several hundreds meters down into the mine with in 30 minutes.

Annual Skating Festival in Clausthal 2005

Every year in winter the Clasuthaler gather in Osterodestr with their skating board to take part in the annual skating festival here. The street was blocked, cleaned the night before. The festival beginns from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm. It's really fun.

Hiking to Osterode

I walked down to several towns in the south of Clausthal with my brother today. This is a Church in Buntenbock, the first town we passed by.

Then we took the Autobahn and continue to walk south.It was quite dangerous with cars which run with more than 100 km/h speed passing by. After a few hours we come to a place called Freiheit, it's a suburb of Osterode.

Finally, Osterode came into our sight, we were almost exausted.

Osterode, the town is almost empty, where are the people?

After a brief glance of the city center, we decided to go back home by the next bus.

Weihnachtsmarkt in Goslar

After 4 month german courses, finnaly comes my first vacation in Germany, 2 weeks off for Christmas. Yeah! And 2 days before Christmas, we went down to a bigger town Goslar and visited the Weihnachtsmarkt(Christmas markt) there. it's much bigger than ours in Clausthal. Lots of food, drinks and traditional staff are sold there.

We each bought a glass of Gluehwine and a Bratwurst(toasted sausage), which costs 5 euro.

Santa Claus has an extra job here other than sending presents.

I telephoned TUM's international office today, they said they will send me a admission letter for the next semester in mechanical engineering diplom program. This news really cheers me up. For once I thought I could not go to Munich. Now the only thing I need to do is to pass the DSH, hoho

A Day With Sunshine

It's been almost a week since last sunshine day. And luckly I just recharged my battery last night. So at 8:00 I went to school with it and traveled to the north side of the town after school with my brother, it's really nice to have a walk in a day like this.
This week is as boring as last week except for the Nikolauscafe on Monday, which is a large boirng party for international students, my brother's blog has some photos about it, check it out if you are interested.

After days of snowing, fogging, raining and hailstone falling, the sun finnaly came out to see what's going on with us today. Everything is same old, except for a little bit decoration on the main street telling people Christmas is coming. And I finnaly feel like taking some photos again.

I like that thing hanging above the main street, but I don't know how to say it in English.

This is the biggest wooden church in Germany!

Christmas is coming, how time flies! Each of the four Sundays preceding Christmas are called Abend(means "night" in english), so today is the first Abend. This is a photo of the christmas markt in Clausthal, yes it's so small, only a few sellers selling christmas food and stuff, but you have to consider that it's very tiny town:)

The most depressing day

Today I received a letter from Technical University of Munich, which rejected my application to their master program in mechanical engineering. That means my plan of taking a 1.5 year short postgraduate program in one of the best university in Germany is corrupted.

The reason for rejection is that my undergraduate average score(GPA) does not meet their requirement. I am very sad, 555, although I can still go to TUM for a Diplom program( which lasts longer, 3 to 4 years or even longer). I have to change my study plan in Germany and even some part of my blur future plan, a totally different one, which could lead to a complete different future of me. But perhaps this is a good sign, i did not study hard before, maybe with longer study time I could learn more stuff and accumulate more practice experience, and the pressure of study may be lower as short master program. Anyway I also feel sorry that TUM mechanical engineering master program has lost such a good and hard-working prospective student. Hehe, just kidding:)

Making cookies with other language students

Today our teacher/class headmaster invite all the students in our group to make cookies in a kitchen in the main building. We were devided into 4 groups and made 4 differet kinds of cookies. This is the members of our group "koko group".

The raw material for making cookies may seem a little bit unpleasant, but when the final products come out, they will taste very good.

Visit to a Water Company

One day We visited the water company in Clausthal. We watched a short movie about water supplying in Clausthal and had a look on their small musem. This is their building.

This is a 3-D territory model of Clausthal-Zellerfeld and its surrounding Harz area in the museum, the city is actually the combination of 2 small towns, Clausthal and Zellerfeld, as you can see in the photo.

This is a model of something doing something, my german is so bad that i couldn't understand a thing of what the narrator said, sorry, but maybe you can figure it out yourself.

when the vertical wooden pillar stick into the hole, it could stop the water running in the hollow horizontal pillar.

this is the principle of the structure i have just show you.

this is perhaps something used for transporting worker to the work site deep under the ground.

Clausthal turned white in a night! When I walked out of the buidling, I couldn't help to wow. Every thing is white, it's so cool. I have never seen such heavy snow in my whole life!

Aerial view of Clausthal-Zellerfeld, my first home in Germany.I will spend at least 7 month to study German and pass the DSH test, which is a must-make test in order to study in a german university. Clausthal is a small, quiet, and beautiful city located in Harz Mountain in the heart of Germany. With 15000 inhabitants and an old university, it is quite a good place for studying, although a little bit boring.
